History of the BioBes company, broadcast on Swiss Radio – Television, RSI
Albania has about 350 different types of medicinal and aromatic plants that grow across the territory. The goal of the Risi Albania project, supported by the Swiss government, is to create a system that allows small growers to not only collect but also adhere to quality standards. Besnik Koçi is an entrepreneur from the town of Lushnja, who after emigrating to Greece has returned to his homeland, dealing with agricultural activity, an activity that his family had previously taken care of and turned it into a company for cultivating plants. Already, he has opened up opportunities for other growers to deal not only with plant collection but also with other processes.
“I have migrated to Greece since 1995, as many Albanians at that time and I have stayed long. We thought we would go back to Albania where we would work with the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic herbs,” he says. “BioBes” was created in 2014 and has collaborated with Albanian Innovation, which has provided support to improve. They deal with the cultivation of 70 different types of plants. After the raw material is placed in the stock, it is selected and passed to the processing line.
BioBes has become a point of reference for small growers who are no longer obliged to dry the aromatic herbs home. BioBes is an example in Albania how a company can improve its activity, be sustainable, and how it can reach larger markets.
